It is our opinion that this is the most important exercise we can teach our patients. We have seen the results over the years in strengthening the diaphragm and reducing panic attacks. Our patients have reported being able to feel the results in the first week or two of use and continue to use their Breather even when they reach the maintenance phase of rehab.

The Breather has taken the place of incentive spirometry for PEP therapy in our facility. Upon discharge, our patients are asked to continue daily therapy. This is something that is carried over in everyday life.

I would like to give you some feedback on our experience with the Breather device that you supply our company House of Speed. As you know, the House of Speed is a company which helps athletes improve their speed and overall sports performance. One of the major problems we have in developing young athletes is to strengthen their lung power so they can generate more explosiveness when involved in sports. The Breather has worked well to help our athletes develop this power and also to make their bodies more efficient in transporting oxygen to the muscles. We are in the early stages of using the Breather device, but after four months, the results have been speaking for themselves. Thank you again for letting us become involved in using and selling the Breather.

Our patients start using the Breather a few days prior to exercise. On one occasion, a patient missed this class and was not instructed on it until he requested it. After several weeks, he stated he had noticed a significant increase in his exercise tolerance/comfort level; and, within that time period, he was able to decrease his need for supplemental O2 during exercise.

Some patients have noticed using their Breather prior to their routine MDI or aerosol treatment helped them focus on taking deeper "diaphragmatic" breaths; and, they felt that they were getting better medication delivery.

I've been recommending resistive breathing training for quite some time. Some of our patients use it after using their updraft nebulizer. It enhances therapy; it eases secretion clearance.

A quadriplegic patient was admitted to our rehabilitation facility with a diagnosis of a spinal tumor, scoliosis, and restrictive lung disease. Referring physician prognosis was that the patient would be mechanically ventilated while in our facility. I believe the Breather prevented the physician's inevitable prognosis. On admission her spontaneous vital capacity (VC) was .890L and negative inspiratory flow (NIF) was -39cmH2O. She was instructed to use the Breather QID and PRN and used it very frequently, especially during the the first few days. Nine days later her VC had increased to 1.2L and NIF to -51cmH2O. Patient stated, "I can't understand why somebody hasn't given me the Breather before now." One month later her VC remains in the range of 1.5L and her NIF increased to -60cmH2O. She was discharged one month later and instructed to continue using the Breather.

Dear PN Medical, I just had to pass along this delightful testimonial from one of my patients. "Thank you for the "Blue Breather." While island hopping at Marco Island, Florida, I was able to use the Breather to curb my smoking and at the same time do my breathing exercises. This instrument was a god-send since it works in multiple ways; hand to mouth usage curbs the psychological and physical need for a cigarette and also the exercise benefits give you treatment at the same time. Very simple and clever instrument! Thank you for introducing me to the Breather."
