Better Breathing, a self-teaching manual, fourth edition was written by Peggy Nicholson, MPH, RRT in 1989.

While 1989 seems long ago, certain concepts of better breathing do not change, especially proper breathing techniques taught in Chapter 3. These instructions are so practical and easily understood that many practitioners have said they are timeless. There is also information on the Breather in Chapter 3 as it does promote proper, diaphragmatic breathing.

Physical fitness is desirable for everyone - COPDers not excluded! Chapter 7 is quite motivating. It safely guides the patient through a warm-up, stretching routine and offers suggestions for safe exercise. Its general suggestions, especially reminders of proper breathing during exercise or exertion, help to take the fear out of exercise. The exercise routine also follows the same format as on Exercise Part Two. Please click on Patient Support for information on the Audio CD series.
